KUCHING: A stakeholder engagement session to discuss the recently enforced Environment (Reduction of Greenhouse Gases) Ordinance 2023 was held yesterday (May 20).
The session is a significant move towards environmental sustainability aimed at facilitating the registration of business entities engaged in scheduled economic sectors with the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NRED) Sarawak.
Approximately 60 participants from the energy as well as oil and gas sectors participated in the session.
Effective from March 1 this year, the ordinance requires all relevant stakeholders to register with the NREB.
Thus, the engagement session provided crucial guidelines and support to ensure compliance with the new regulations.
The session commenced with opening remarks by Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability permanent secretary Abg Ahmad Abg Morni.
He said the session was an important platform for businesses and individuals to understand the implications of the ordinance and the procedures for registration.
“It also served as an opportunity for stakeholders to engage with regulatory authorities and clarify any concerns regarding the implementation of the ordinance. Participants were provided with the guidelines for registration which outlined the necessary steps and documentation required for compliance,” he said.
Abg Ahmad added that the successful engagement session marked a proactive step by Sarawak in its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote environmental stewardship among its economic sectors.
Also present to provide advice and conduct a sharing session was Controller of Environmental Quality Jack Lim.
