BINTULU: Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has praised the extraordinary spirit of the people here in helping the flood victims even when they themselves were also affected.
He said they still came forward to help clean up the disaster-stricken areas regardless of how tired they were.
“Even though their own houses were damaged, they still went out to help the community. This is an extraordinary spirit of belonging and a source of pride for Sarawak,” he said during an inspection of restoration works in the Taman Bandar Jaya area, on Saturday morning.
Dr Sim also expressed his appreciation to Tanjong Batu assemblyman, Johnny Pang, as well as the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and the Miri City Council who immediately went to the ground to provide support.
“The team from Kuching also sent donated mattresses to help the victims. This is a sincere effort without any publicity, just a proof of the solidarity of the people of Sarawak in facing the crisis,” he added.
He emphasised that the success of the recovery process requires concerted efforts and a spirit of togetherness without pointing fingers.
“Instead of blaming, our society chooses to act. That is what makes Sarawak strong and resilient,” he added.
Dr Sim, later spent time with flood victims at the Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) at Muhibah Bintulu Stadium.
