SIBU: The 7km stretch of road that will link Kemuyang to Kampung Nangka will be upgraded to a four-lane highway, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the road will improve connectivity and villages in the area are also expected to grow, thus providing benefits to the people of Sibu.

“We will also develop a smart city equipped with Internet and modern facilities.

“This is now near implementation. Just think about the mosque in Kemuyang … a pillarless big mosque.

“This is the type of development we are building in Sibu,” he said at an open house with the Sibu community at Dewan Lakis here Tuesday (April 25).

Abang Johari further said that the road upgrading is part of the Sarawak government’s plans to develop Sibu.

“Sibu is prone to flooding. So, I sent a team to the Netherlands to study how they can keep growing and developing despite being below sea level.
