SIBU: An elderly couple was left homeless after a fire destroyed their wooden house in Kampung Jeriah Utara, here yesterday (July 17).

No injuries were reported as the couple, in their 50s, managed to get out to safety in time.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said a team from the Sungai Merah fire station was promptly despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call around 4.30 pm.

By the time they arrived, the fire had engulfed the house and the firemen could only prevent the fire from spreading to nearby properties.
