MUKAH: The two siblings who went missing after being swept by strong currents at Jambatan Kuning, Batang Mukah on Tuesday, have been found drowned.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the body of 10-year-old Dexper Kiu Kuang Wei was found floating by police at around 4.40 pm on Wednesday.
Rescuers were alerted to the incident and retrieved the body from the river, about 2km from where he was last seen.
Meanwhile, the body of his seven-year-old sister, Susie Kiu, was spotted by the villagers on the Kala Dana shore at around 9.25 am.
Her body was recovered by rescuers and took it to the search and rescue (SAR) control post.
Both bodies have been sent to Mukah Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
On Tuesday, the victims’ mother said that she and her children were bathing at Batang Mukah when the tragedy occurred at around 3.50 pm.
She said her children, who were unable to swim, were suddenly pulled under by the current.
Despite her attempts to save them, she was unsuccessful, prompting her to alert the authorities for assistance.
