SIBU: The Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (SHDC) has approved for loans to two additional longhouses in the Dudong constituency. Rumah Lenyam in Batu Wong and Rumah Monica Giri Jaban in Jalan Kong Yik Khim will receive loans of RM1 million and RM570,000, respectively.
Wong Ching Yong, the chairman of the Dudong branch of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), shared this information. He explained that Rumah Lenyam, accommodating 20 families, is constructing a new longhouse and has secured a loan of RM1 million, which amounts to RM50,000 for each family.
“Regarding Rumah Monica, which houses 19 families, it has obtained a loan of RM570,000, with each family receiving RM30,000 for repairs,” Wong disclosed during his presence at the branch’s coffee chat mobile service held at Lok Ming Yuen Cafe on Jalan Chew Siik Hiong.
Wong further informed the media that the SHDC’s loan is interest-free and does not necessitate collateral. The repayment period spans 300 months, equivalent to 25 years. Additionally, the borrowers’ longhouses are protected by general insurance, ensuring coverage in the event of damage from fire, flood, or other natural disasters.
“On May 22, we will organize a pre-Gawai lunch at Golden Happiness Restaurant, inviting 200 longhouse residents to celebrate the Dayak Festival. Senior officials from the SHDC will also attend to discuss the application process for Mutiara Mortgage housing loans.”
Wong emphasized, “Many individuals in Sibu possess land titles but lack the financial means to repair their homes. Consequently, they can apply for loans of this nature.”
He revealed that over 20 longhouses in the Dudong constituency had already received loans from the SHDC since his election campaign commenced in 2020.
During the coffee chat mobile service, Wong encouraged the public to raise concerns related to livelihood or community matters. This way, the service centre’s comrades, community leaders, and councillors can assist in addressing those issues.
