Shabery leads Malaysian delegation to call on his Indonesian counterpart

KUCHING: Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (MOA) Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek yesterday led a delegation to call on Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Dr Andi Amran Sulaiman in Jakarta.

Also among the Malaysian delegates were Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister who is also Modernisation of Agriculture and Rural Economy Minister (MoARE) Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

The bilateral discussion held between Malaysia and Indonesia, during the work visit was hoped to pave the way for further cooperation and better understanding between the two friendly and neighbouring nations.

Senior Malaysian officials in the delegation and partaking in the strategic discussion included Permanent Secretary to MoARE, Buckland Bangik; Deputy Chief Secretary to MOA Datuk Mohd Sallehuddin Hassan, MOA Director-General Datuk Ahmad Zakaria Mohamad Sidek; Director-General of MARDI Datuk Dr Sharif Harun, Veterinary Deputy Director-General Dr Quaza Nizamuddin Hassan Nizam, political secretary to Sarawak Chief Minister Dr Richard Rapu and Press Secretary to the Minister  Hisham Abdul Hamid.

Shabery in his speech said his ministry was intent in establishing a close cooperation in developing land at the borders of the two countries, especially the ones bordering West Kalimantan and Sarawak.

According to Shabery among the potential crop that could be developed commercially is organic rice.
