JAPAN: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) is exploring latest drone technology and hyper spectral cameras here.
SFC team headed by its chief executive officer Zolkipli Mohamad Aton, deputy chief executive officer I Oswald Braken Tisen, head of Biodiversity Conservation and Research Dr Melvin Gumal together with Sunway University’s engineering group, are in Japan to look at the latest and newest technology drones and hyper spectral cameras.
According to SFC, the team from SFC and Sunway University were met by the chief executive officer and president of FunLead and Aerosense which are subsidiaries of Taiyo and Sony Corporation.
“The teams observed the flight of the new Aerosense VTOL drone and attended an expo on drones which featured fixed-wing, helicopters and underwater ones held near Mount Fuji.
“There is much to be expected of these new technologies due to the extended flight times and images which are linked to Artificial Intelligence (AI) via Machine Learning,” it said in a social media post yesterday.
SFC revealed that its staff Voon Mufen and Stacey Sing were given extended training as part of the technology transfer from the two tech giants.
“The trip was partially sponsored by the internationally competitive ATP grant whereby SFC is one of the two recipients in Malaysia.
“SFC has also applied for extending the grant into 2023 to 2024,” it added.
