SARIKEI: An elderly motorcyclist was killed after a collision with a car at KM431, Jalan Betong-Sarikei-Meradong yesterday (Apr 28).
Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anissaid the fatal accident happened at around 8.30 am near SK Sungai Paoh.
The collision involved a Toyota Vios travelling from Sesang to Sibu and a Yamaha Lagenda ridden by the victim, who was exiting the road divider onto the right lane towards Jakar.
“The victim, identified as Mugit Andin, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics due to severe head and left leg injuries.
“His body was taken to Sarikei Hospital for further action.
“Initial investigations revealed the accident was caused by the motorcycle’s sudden exit from the road divider into a busy stretch,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Vios driver, a local woman, was unhurt in the accident.
Aswandy said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Road users are also advised to be careful when driving on the road to ensure their own safety and that of other road users,” he said.
