MIRI: Heavy rains last Friday (July 24), had triggered flash floods in several low-lying areas in this division.

Amongst the affected areas included Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Kelabit Bakong;Rumah Nyala Sungai Belasoi and Rumah Banyah Sungai Sebubu in Marudi, where water rose to knee’s height, making it impassable for vehicles.

However, on Saturday (July 25) according to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong , floodwaters in those affected areas had receded, with no occurrence of untoward incident.

“We have deployed our personnel to those locations. Fortunately, there was no necessity to evacuate any resident in those areas, but we are watching the situation closely,” he said.

Meanwhile, SK Sungai Kelabit has been closed since the start of the recovery movement control order (RMCO).
