Seven months in prison for making threats

KUCHING: A man was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here on Tuesday (Dec 6) for making threats.

Maszidi Mohamad, 36, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which was read before magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

According to the charge, he intentionally made criminal threats to set fire to the house of his uncle, 55, in Kampung Muara Tebas at around 4.15pm on Sept 6.

The facts of the case stated that when the complainant arrived home, he found that his nephew had gone berserk and had damaged the wall of the house using an iron rod and a machete.

The accused also threatened to burn down the complainant’s house and do bad things to the complainant’s family.

The cause of the incident was because the accused was not satisfied with the complainant’s son, but the complainant did not know the main cause of the accused’s dissatisfaction with his son.

The complainant made a police report for further action, leading to the arrest of the accused a day after the incident.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
