KUCHING: The Bintang P. Ramlee finals, featuring seven couples, will be held on Nov 30, at the Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya.

According to Sarawak Broadcasting Director, Wan Azhan Wan Hamat, this year’s event concept will be musical.

“In 2022, the competition included sketches and was more drama-focused, and this year, we are leaning toward musical theatre.

“The performances will revolve around themes tied to the selected songs, creating a theatrical experience.

“There will with two segments on the event night; where the first is the red-carpet segment from 8–8:30pm, hosted by Am Amran and Haziq while the main event will air at 9pm, hosted by Iwan Haji Dasri and Raja Azura, our veteran emcees,” he said in a press conference here Wednesday (Nov 27).

He added that male participants are required to sing one solo P. Ramlee song and a duet with their partners.

In addition, he said that the age limit has been extended due to the widespread interest from fans of all ages and backgrounds.

“The age limit has been extended to 70 years in celebration of Radio Sarawak’s 70th Anniversary, and thankfully, we’ve had diverse participants.

“Although not all were fortunate to advance to the finals, their spirit matters most,” he said.

The finalists consist of Mohamad Faqhrul Azhar Mohamad Zabandi and Nurul Fatihah Mohd Nazri (Northern Zone), Danie Hasbullah Mohd Razi and Nabilah Mohammad (Central Zone), Mohd Khairy Mohamad Yusopp and Nur Dalilah Husna Ahmad (Southern Zone), M.D Wahidul Zaman Bahrudin and Farasuzilawani Roslie (Eastern Zone), Jarak Sadi and Jamilah Hanchus (Sabah Zone), Ahmady Mohd Spuan and Nurhamimah Bohan (Sarawak Zone), and M. Rizki and Riyadah Yutika (Republic of Indonesia).

He expressed hope that participants from Brunei and Singapore will also participate in future Bintang P. Ramlee

Wan Azhan said that all winners will receive cash prizes, a certificate of participation, and a trophy.

“The champion will receive RM20,000, a trophy and a certificate of participation, while the second-place winner will get RM15,000; the third-place winner will receive RM10,000.

“Consolation prizes worth RM5,000 will be awarded with the trophies and certificates, and as a bonus, if a participant delivers the best performance for that evening, they will receive an additional RM6,000,” he added.

The event will be broadcast on TV2, Radio Klasik, and Sarawak FM during the competition, but Wan Azhan hopes the public will attend the event at the Stadium Perpaduan.

“The audience will not go home empty-handed as there will be lucky draws.

“Tickets for the lucky draw will be distributed via a QR code system, and the draw will also use a digital system.

“However, prizes can only be claimed during the event,” he said.

Artists performing that night include Jaclyn Victor and Noryn Aziz, followed by Bintang RTM Champion Roxy Ixzy; Tok! Buskers Challenge 2023 Champion Adruce Azman; Bintang P. Ramlee 2022 Champion Ameerezul Maula; and the RTM Orchestra, comprising 40 members.

The press conference was followed by a costume presentation by Sarawak Community College to four Bintang P. Ramlee participants.
