Serian police arrest gov’t official for drugs abuse

KUCHING: A government official was arrested for allegedly possessing and abusing drugs near a bank in town here.

The 36-year-old man from Kuching was arrested on August 9 at 1.15am by policemen from Serian District Narcotics Division.

According to Serian District police chief DSP Aswandy Anis, the police seized two transparent plastic packets containing a substance believed to be syabu.

“Police have seized 2.5g of syabu worth RM650.

“The suspect, who is believed to be a runner, also tested positive for methamphetamine,” he told reporters yesterday.

The suspect is now remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 12 (3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15 (1) (a) of the same Act.
