SERIAN: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has urged the Muslim community to actively utilise the newly upgraded Serian mosque, now officially named Darul Makmur Mosque.
Officiated by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Abang Johari highlighted the mosque’s role in uniting Muslims and strengthening ties with non-Muslims.
“That is why this mosque is named ‘makmur’ (prosperous), we strengthen our bonds and help one another.
“We prosper the community, especially in Serian, by fostering relationships between Muslims and non-Muslims.
“We have a mosque for Muslims, but we also extend our brotherhood to non-Muslims. A prosperous Serian means a prosperous life for all,” he said.
He said this when attending the state-level Nuzul Al-Quran event at Darul Makmur Mosque here last night (Mar 17).
On the same note, Abang Johari stressed that a well-maintained mosque should also reflect the quality of the Muslim community.
Noting that minor finishing touches are still needed for the mosque, he assured that additional improvements, such as enhanced lighting, would be made
“A beautiful mosque must be well-utilised, and Muslims must also embody beauty — both in character and in their role in society,” he added.
The mosque, which underwent a RM7.9 million upgrade, now accommodates up to 1,500 worshippers.
The project began with the official site handover on Aug 14, 2023, and was completed on Dec 15, 2024.
