MIRI: Over 500 food packages were distributed to heads of households between Sept 30 to Oct 10 under the People’s Protection and Economic Recovery Package (Pemulih).
The federal government’s food aid, channelled through Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick, was to ease the burden of families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in Tatau District.
The package consists of basic necessities such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, tea, biscuits, instant noodles, sauces, canned food, and many others.
The food aid was distributed with the help of volunteers from the Ketua Masyarakat dan Ketua Kaum (KMKK) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the Dayak Oil Palm Planters Association of Sarawak (Doppa).
Furthermore, the recipients were gathered from a list obtained from the Tatau District Office’s e-kasih database and the food aid is expected to benefit a total of 1,000 heads of households in the future.
On Sept 28, Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick had previously performed the symbolic handover ceremony of the food assistance.
