BINTULU: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin arrived safely at Bintulu Airport at 2 pm aboard a special plane for an official visit to Sarawak from today until November 7.

Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed by Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, along with his wife, Dato Dayang Morliah Awang Daud.

Upon their arrival, a prayer was recited by Awang Fakrulrizan Awang Madohi from the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department.

Sultan Sharafuddin is scheduled to attend the 47th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Session 1, at the UPM Bintulu Campus in Dewan Seri Kenyalang tomorrow morning.

In the afternoon, Their Royal Highnesses will be in Kuching to continue their official visit.

Also present to receive the royal couple were the Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, the Vice-Chancellor of UPM, Dato’ Professor Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, and the director of UPMKB, Professor Dr. Shahrul Razid Sarbini.
