MIRI: The Sarawak Welfare Department’s (JKM) signature programme, Sejambak Kasih, continues to provide much-needed assistance to welfare recipients across the state, with the latest event held at Dynasty Hotel Miri in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, on Tuesday (March 18).

This long-standing initiative, established over 23 years ago, a collaboration with Dynasty Hotel Miri, ensures that welfare recipients receive financial and food assistance during major festive seasons. Each beneficiary is provided with RM100 in cash and a food basket worth RM80 to help ease their festive expenses.

At the Miri event, Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah announced that a total of 16,118 welfare recipients—representing 29 per cent of all aid beneficiaries in Sarawak—would receive festive contributions amounting to RM1,611,800.

The event was made possible through a collaboration between JKM and Dynasty Hotel Miri, which generously provided its venue and facilities free of charge.

In addition, the hotel contributed food hampers worth RM150 each to 150 welfare recipients, bringing the total donation to RM22,500.

“We sincerely appreciate Dynasty Hotel Miri’s generosity and commitment to this initiative. Their contributions have brought immense joy to the recipients, particularly during this festive season,” said Fatimah.

Fatimah also revealed that from January to February 2025, JKM Sarawak disbursed a total of RM49.2 million in monthly welfare aid to 54,384 recipients across the state. Of this amount, the Miri Division Welfare Office allocated RM4.29 million to 4,564 recipients during the same period.

Also present at the event were Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Rosey Yunus; and Dynasty Hotel managing director Tony Pui.
