KUCHING: Independent assemblyman See Chow How is likely to defend his Batu Lintang seat, this time under the banner of SUPP, should he decide to join the party upon the dissolution of the current state assembly.
Political analyst Dr. Azmi Hassan based this prediction on the groundwork See has been doing over the last two years.
He said while it is curious as to why See has chosen to stay independent since his election victory against SUPP in the 2021 State Election, he has cultivated good ties with both SUPP and the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak of which SUPP is a component.
“See needs to figure out whether he wants to remain independent or if he wishes to join SUPP for the next state election,” he told New Sarawak Tribune recently.
Azmi said if See joins SUPP, there is a high chance he will be the party’s candidate for Batu Lintang in the next election.
“This is due to his unique position as an independent assemblyman while maintaining friendship with SUPP and GPS over the last two years, which has significantly boosted his popularity within the political sphere,” he said.
Earlier news reports stated it is likely that See will join the SUPP after the dissolution of the state assembly term.
While not ruling out the possibility of joining the GPS component party, See has opted to remain partyless until the end of the term.
“But it is still a long time before it happens. After that (the dissolution), we will see,” he said.
