SARIBAS: Sign language syllabus will be included in SeDidik’s curriculum as part of efforts to enhance early childhood education for children with disabilities.

Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam said that the Sarawak government, through his ministry, will seek advice from persons with disabilities (PWD).

“The Sarawak government has decided to include a sign language syllabus, specifically for our children who fall under the PWD category.

“In this effort, the ministry has collaborated with many members of the PWD community to seek their advice,” he said.

He said this while speaking at the Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI) Student Excellence Awards at Dewan Millenia, Debak, today.

In addition, Razi added that parents of PWD children with sports talent will be registered under the Talent Identification Development Programme (TID).

He explained that this programme is aimed at developing athletes in various sports fields and events.

“In Sarawak, we are also implementing TID, a special programme to nurture athletes. If there are children registered under the PWD category, do not leave them behind.

“There may be talent that can be nurtured under the programme organised by Sarawak to produce athletes, as witnessed during the recent Para Malaysia Games (SUKMA) XXI,” he added.

The event celebrated 19 PPKI students who received the Student Excellence Awards, along with four students graduating from SK Datuk Bandar who will continue their PPKI education at SMK Saribas.
