KUCHING: A security guard was sentenced to eight years in prison and three lashes of the cane for raping his then 14-year-old girlfriend.
The girl, now 16, became pregnant as a result of the rape and has since given birth to a baby boy,
In the Sessions Court here Wednesday, the 30-year-old pleaded guilty before Judge Musli Abdul Hamid.
He committed the offence at a house in Bau, between October 2021 and February 2022.
Musli ordered him to serve his prison sentence effective today, in addition to undergoing rehabilitation counselling while in custody.
The man was also ordered placed under police supervision for three years after serving his prison term.
A doctor had on June 9 last year filed a police report after examining the victim, who was already five months pregnant then.
It is understood that her grandmother had taken her to hospital for a check-up.
The security guard was arrested on June 17 at his residence in Kampung Bijongon.
The court heard that the girl delivered her baby on Sept 26 last year in hospital upon which DNA analysis confirmed the man as the biological father of the baby.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
