Security guard fined RM1k for having stolen property

KUCHING: A security guard was fined RM1,000, in default a month’s jail, by the Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (Feb 16) for having in his possession a stolen smartphone.

Zambri Sulaiman, 40, pleaded guilty to the charge read to him by an interpreter before magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code for having stolen property – a Samsung J6 smartphone.

The accused was found in possession of the phone at a primary school in Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here at about 11am, November 2021.

According to case brief, at about 7.13am when the complainant opened the door of a company’s office, the complainant was approached by an unknown man carrying a machete and he confiscated the complainant’s bag.

Several important documents were inside, including a Samsung J6 smartphone and cash amounting to RM200.

The results from police investigation found that one of the reported missing items was in the possession of the accused.
