KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) generously donated 130 life jackets for children in Ulu Baram as part of the Charity Without Borders No. 11 expedition, ensuring safer boat journeys for students travelling to boarding schools in the region.

In alignment with its dedication to ensuring that “Everybody Goes Home Safely,” Hope Place Kuching, Kelab Cabaran Pacuan 4 Roda Bintulu, and various 4×4 clubs in East Malaysia are organizing the upcoming Charity Without Borders (CWB) No. 11 expedition, an annual outreach program that provides health and dental care, essential supplies, and safety awareness to rural areas in Sarawak.

Scheduled from 12 to 15 December 2024, this year’s expedition will witness a convoy travelling from Miri to three longhouses — Long Silat, Long Tikan, and Long Bee — in Ulu Baram, with the challenging road journey expected to last up to 12 hours.

SEB has consistently supported CWB through community safety demonstrations and awareness programs for fire and electrical safety and responded to Hope Place Kuching’s request for life jackets to ensure the safety of children navigating rivers on long boats.

According to Senior Vice President of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment, Marconi Madai, safety is a shared responsibility. Therefore, Sarawak Energy is pleased to contribute to these efforts alongside Hope Place Kuching and Kelab Cabaran Pacuan 4 Roda Bintulu.

“Supporting these initiatives reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing safety and the well-being of communities in rural Sarawak.

“Providing life jackets helps address the critical safety requirement for students travelling by boat, aligning with the Ministry of Education’s recent call for improved safety measures.

“We urge the recipients to establish proper safety protocols, including the obligatory use of these life jackets,” he stated.

CWB No. 11 will unite a diverse team of donors, sponsors, volunteers, and medical professionals, including doctors and nurses from the State Health Department and firefighters from BOMBA, to deliver aid and services.

The expedition will be launched in Miri by YB Datuk Sebastian Ting, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (Tourism), on 12 December 2024.
