SERIAN: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for an elderly man reported missing after failing to return home at Kampung Taie, Jalan Baki-Riih, has been called off.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the five-day operation had been carried around the victim’s farm and around Kampung Plaman Nyabet.

Despite the search, the victim identified as Nipol Rantai, 73, was still not found.

Following discussions with those involved in the search as well as the victim’s family, the decision to end the operation was made at 3.45pm Monday.

Last Thursday (Mar 9), Nipol was found to be not at home at 10am and his family feared that he had gone missing.

The victim was last seen wearing a black shirt and a pair of jeans.

The five-day search had involved firemen from Serian station, Serian and Tebakang police, Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) as well as the local villagers.
