SARIKEI: Schools are urged to intensify efforts in educating students on the importance of environmental preservation.

Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said this is a strategic effort to ensure that the younger generation become more aware, responsible and proactive in addressing urgent environmental issues, such as climate change and global pollution.

“I hope every school in the country can implement various programs that stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm in environmental preservation.

“Programmes that can be implemented include ‘Let’s Buy Green Products’, ‘Environment Day’, or ‘Let’s E-Waste’.”
Huang said this in his speech at the 38th Anthonians Excellence Awards ceremony held at SMK St Anthony recently.In addition, he also praised SMK St Anthony’s initiative in successfully leveraging technology by integrating digital pedagogy into teaching and learning.

This approach, he stated, not only enriches the learning experience but also equips students with the 21st-century skills necessary in today’s modern world.

In the same speech, the Sarikei MP also announced a grant of RM50,000 to the school as support to strengthen efforts in enhancing the quality of education and learning facilities.

A total of 445 outstanding students in various fields were celebrated at the ceremony, in recognition of their exceptional academic and co-curricular achievements.

Also present were Sarikei District education officer Lau Ngie Tung, SMK St Anthony principal Vincent Liong, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) president Maureen Chua Geik Lian, Sarikei District Education Office strategic officer Ting Sing Teck, Pemanca Chan Phan Chan and PTA treasurer Wong Siew Sie.
