KUCHING: St Joseph’s Private Secondary School became the latest school to take part in Trienekens’ solid waste segregation and education programme for schools.
The programme engages both students and teachers to practise segregating their school waste from the point of generation.
In the programme, Trienekens conducted an awareness talk whereby students learned about the detrimental impacts of poor management of solid waste, including habitual littering and indiscriminate dumping, towards the environment and human health.
Several other activities are also being planned for the students throughout the year including scheduled collection of recyclables as well as environmental-themed exercises aimed to inculcate a sense of care for the environment.
As part of Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the programme creates an opportunity to address environmental challenges and responsibility, besides encouraging students to build ownership of their disposal behaviour and learn the correct way of separating waste.
