The wedding day must be the perfect occasion in every bride’s dreams. Aside from the bride and groom, one of the centrepieces of a wedding ceremony is the dais. Your big day, their great pleasure

A wedding ceremony is considered incomplete without a dais. In fact, with the presence of dais — be they simple or extravagant ones — a ceremony will definitely be more glamorous.

Choosing the right theme and colour will not only highlight a dais’ beauty but also turn the entire event into a compelling narrative for the attendees.

Thanks to the increase in these dais decorator businesses, today’s brides-to-be don’t have to worry about the dais concept or style that is suitable for their ceremony — leave it all to your trusted decorator!

According to Abdul Sharfiz Ahmad Zaidi, the owner of Lace Love Creation, every dais decorator should be creative when picking out the design and decorations of the dais since it will serve as a lasting memory for the bride and groom.

“A beautiful dais, for me as a decorator, is the one with nice and well-organised design and decorations.

“There is no doubt that colour helps to brighten up a wedding ceremony.

“One of the most crucial pieces of advice for future brides is to avoid wearing a wedding attire that matches your dais. It will sink in; guests won’t be able to see the bride and groom.

“Besides that, every decorator should work honestly to produce their dais … making sure the end product is tidy,” he said.

Elaborating, this 33-year-old entrepreneur said the brides-to-be should also cooperate in determining the design of the dais they want, and most importantly, they should stick with the decision they have made; please don’t ask for a change at the last minute.

In order to prevent any mistakes in the design or decorations of the dais, Sharfiz believed that strong understanding, communication, and cooperation between the decorator and customer are crucial.

According to him, family members’ interference — sometimes exceeding or running away from what the brides-to-be want — is the main reason why a dais’ design and decorations are changed at the last minute.

“The bride and groom must decide whether to follow their own wishes or those of their family members in this situation. This is where they have to play a role; they have to be firm and stick to their decisions.

“If possible, discuss it with family members first before you decide, and on our side, which style you dream of.

“We don’t want last-minute changes, especially on the night before the ceremony — it not only takes time and energy but sometimes disrupts our schedule as a decorator,” he said, admitting the diversity of clients’ behaviour is one of the main challenges they have to face.

Meanwhile, when asked where their inspiration to start this business came from, co-owner Hamir Hamzah Idris said designing and decorating the dais was not something that ever crossed their minds because they both had dreams of opening a restaurant.

According to him, at that time, he and Sharfiz were actively following and helping their friends make dais, and from there, they did research and realised that the cost of making dais was lower than opening a restaurant.

“That’s where the idea sparks, and after about a year of saving, we managed to open Lace Love Creation in December 2016.

“Alhamdulillah, all the processes of establishing this business went smoothly with God’s permission,” he said.

The 36-year-old added that he and Sharfiz decided to use Lace Love Creation as their business name since the name is easy to remember and easy for everyone to pronounce — lace is synonymous with wedding dresses, love refers to the bride and groom, and creation represents both of them as decorators, which will ensure the bride and groom have the most unforgettable memories.

Recalling, Hamzah said he still remembers how anxious he was when the two of them created a dais under their own business name, and for that, he is extremely appreciative of the public’s acceptance and their consistent support for Lace Love Creation.

“The encouragement and support from clients really motivate both of us to put more effort and dedication into growing as professionals in this field.

“Thankfully, throughout our seven years of operation, we have never faced any major challenges, and all this is owed to the cooperation, trust, and good communication between the customer and us,” said the dais decorator, who has over 10 years of experience.

Adding on, Sharfiz said that because he and Hamzah place a high value on the quality of their work, they occasionally have to turn down offers or requests from clients despite the positive response of their services from the general public.

According to him, client happiness with the outcomes of their work is the primary driver behind the two of them starting the business.

He said seeing the brides-to-be’s contented smile can take away all their tiredness after working hard to ensure the wedding ceremony is meaningful for the brides.

“What we give to customers is the same, no matter if they choose budget or the most expensive packages.

“Although there are clients who occasionally ask for their dais or decorations to be modified (often as a result of family members’ interference), we will also accommodate their requests as long as they are happy and satisfied.

“Besides that, we will also always take care of the relationship with the customers so that they feel comfortable and put their full trust in us to make their weddings more beautiful and special.

“I believe it is this relationship that always attracts customers to find us to help them celebrate their big day. Most of our satisfied customers will definitely tell their relatives and friends about our services — word-of-mouth marketing is always the best strategy for promoting our services to the public,” he said.

In response to a question about the services they provide, Sharfiz said that in addition to designing and decorating dais for weddings, Lace Love Creation also provides services for events such as akad nikah, engagements, malam berinai, aqiqah (baby showers), stage decor for dinner parties, photo booths, event centrepieces, and others, with costs beginning at RM500.

In the meantime, Hamzah advised their future customers to prepare themselves and, most importantly, to know their budget limit — the bigger the desire, the bigger the capital needed; if the budget is low, just make a simple dais so as to not trouble themselves and others later on.
