KUCHING: Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki has pledged RM50,000 to repair SJK Chung Hua No. 4’s smart school facilities after they were damaged by a thunderstorm recently.

“I hope the financial assistance will enable students to study and work hard, and ensure that Sarawak will be an advanced state in the future,” he said.

Ibrahim hoped his contribution  would assist them to learn in a much conducive environment and be successful.

“My only request to all of you is to study diligently and be bright students who would one day contribute to the progress and development of Sarawak.

“Education is everything, it is truly important and it can change lives especially when you have good education,” he said in his speech before distributing Chinese New Year goodies to around 50 underprivileged students from the school today.

Ibrahim also highlighted the racial diversity in the school and urged students and teachers to continue celebrating the unique festive culture practised by Sarawakians.

“This is the culture in Sarawak, we live in peace and harmony.

“With the spirit of unity, we are able to celebrate this festive season with joy and that is why it is important to stay united to ensure Sarawak becomes a prosperous state,” he said.

After the event, Ibrahim conducted a walkabout around eateries in Jalan Nanas near SJK Chung Hua No. 4, distributing mandarin oranges to eateries and members of the public in the area.

Among those present at the ceremony were Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) mayor Hilmy Othman, Federation of Chinese Association of Sarawak president Datuk Richard Wee, Association of the Boards of Management of Aided Primary Schools in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian president Datuk Jonathan Chai and SJK Chung Hua No. 4 headmaster Pui Jin Tung.
