KUCHING: The Christmas spirit was in the air in Satok today (Dec 24) as coffee shop patrons along Jalan Nanas were presented with decorated cookies by local assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.

A total of 200 cookie packs were distributed during the programme which was organised by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Satok branch at Thompson Cafe and Sing Wah Yuen premises.

Ibrahim said the distribution of small gifts was to foster strong relationships with his constituents and visitors.

“Every year, we come here (to the coffee shops) at least twice, during Chinese New Year and Christmas.

“Many visitors to this area come to enjoy dishes like mee kolok and chicken rice. It is good to uphold this culture of community and harmony in Sarawak.

“It is important to preserve this culture in our state to maintain close rapport among the community not only with our constituents but with all the people of Sarawak,” he said when met by reporters.

He added that building harmony is essential, and must be nurtured continuously.

“We want to maintain our culture of living in harmony, respecting one another across race, religion, and culture.

“Disunity can create chaos, as we see in many parts of the world. Here in Sarawak, we must cherish and preserve our harmony,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the festive season, Ibrahim reminded Sarawakians to prioritise safety when travelling back to their hometown.

“For those traveling on our good roads to Miri, Bintulu, or other parts of Sarawak, please drive carefully and stay alert.

“Also make sure your electricity and appliances at home are turned off before heading out to celebrate or visit friends and family,” he said.

He also extended his Christmas greetings to all Sarawakians, wishing them a joyful festive season.

“To all our friends and family members, colleagues, wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” he said.
