“This is because there are coaches who have the experience in producing field events athletes. Besides this, ping pong is another sport that has the potential to produce successful athletes in Sarikei,” he said in reply to Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii during question time today.

Rentap said there are nine athletes from Repok who have succeeded in bringing glory to Sarawak, especially in field events and volleyball.

The athletes are Jackie Wong who won a silver medal and Grace Wong (gold) in the just concluded Cambodia SEA Games 2023.

Other athletes who performed well at national sports events are  Vincent Lau Yi Jen, Wong Huan Xiong, Andrew Chua and Chiong Siew Kiet who won a gold medal each in Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2022, and Catherine Wong Chuen Yen and Wong Siew Keen who won a bronze medal each in SUKMA 2022.
