KUCHING: The official name of the new Sarawak’s single water entity is expected to be officially launched in June, said Utility and Telecommunication Minister, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.
Julaihi said that the merger of the three water agencies that involve the Kuching Water Board (KWB), Sibu Water Board (SWB) and Laku Management Sdn Bhd is now in its final phase.
“We are in the final stage of merging these three agencies into one entity, and the name will be officially launched in June,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters during the Ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.
He also clarified that the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) is not part of the merger at this stage.
“It’s only three agencies for now – KWB, SWB and LAKU Management,” he said.
Previously, Julaihi said that the new state government-owned entity aims to improve water supply management while also prioritising staff welfare through the restructuring and integration of existing personnel into the unified organisation.
Earlier, the festive event was enlivened by the presence of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
As part of the celebration, a special gesture of care was extended to children from the Laila Taib Welfare Complex (PERYATIM).
The Premier personally handed out ‘duit raya’ to 100 recipients, reflecting the Sarawak government’s dedication to uplifting the underprivileged.
The event attracted about 3,000 guests from diverse backgrounds.
