KUCHING: The Sarawak ping pong team fell short in their quest for a podium finish, succumbing to Penang with a 3-1 defeat in the bronze medal match this afternoon (Aug 22) in the mixed double event.

Representing Sarawak, Annie Siaw Mei Kong and Brandon Tze Yuan Tan displayed grit and determination, delivering a spirited performance that kept their hopes alive throughout the match.

Despite their efforts, the duo couldn’t overturn Penang’s tactical play, leaving the host team to settle for fourth place.

The match highlighted the high-stakes atmosphere of the competition, with both teams vying for a coveted spot on the podium.

Sarawak’s athletes, known for their resilience, pushed their opponents to the limit, but Penang’s consistency and strategic execution ultimately sealed their victory.

The gold medal in the mixed doubles category was claimed by Selangor, who edged out the goliath Federal Territory in a thrilling 3-2 battle, demonstrating the depth of talent across the tournament.
