KUCHING: Sarawak values play an important role in shaping the state’s future as it moves towards 2030, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said that Sarawak’s transformation is not just about economic growth but also about fostering a strong identity rooted in shared values.

“Sarawak in 2025 is vastly different from 2015 and will continue evolving towards its goal of becoming a developed and prosperous state by 2030. However, that prosperity should not be measured by wealth alone.

“We don’t want people to look at Sarawak just because we have money. We want them to respect us for our forward-thinking mindset, our knowledge, and our values,” he said.

He said this during the i-CATS University College Chinese New Year Hi-Tea 2025 at the Dewan Tan Sri Aziz, i-CATS University College here today (Feb 28).

At the heart of Sarawak’s development, he asserted, are institutions like i-CATS and other educational establishments that contribute to talent development and nation-building.

“Education is not just about knowledge; it is about values. We must ensure that our institutions instill Sarawak values in our students,” he added.

He described these values as the ability of Sarawakians to live harmoniously despite differences in race and religion.

“In Sarawak, we can be different, but we sit together, we eat together, we celebrate together. That is Sarawak,” he said, echoing the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem’s vision of unity.

He also said Sarawak is ready for change in its pursuit of innovation and transformation to achieve its vision by 2030.

“By 2030, we want Sarawak to be more advanced and remarkable, not just because of its wealth but because of its wisdom.

“We dream of making Sarawak a space technology hub, a satellite launch site, and a green energy hub for Asia.

“We aspire for Sarawak to lead in hydrogen technology, hydrogen-based transportation, medical tourism, and much more in the future,” he said.
