KUCHING: The appointment of Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS) as the sole technical and vocational education and training (TVET) hub in Sarawak is a recognition of the state’s digital agenda.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that this proves that the level of development of Sarawak is recognised by the Malaysian government.

“With this appointment, it also proves that we are recognised in terms of digitisation and a benchmark for Sarawak to develop to a higher level.

“That is why I launched the digital economy initiatives in 2018 because I feel that we need to develop in this competitive world by using digitisation as the basis of economic activity,” he said.

He told reporters this when met after officiating at the launch of Sarawak Education Expo at Dewan Jamilah, Yayasan Sarawak today.

Abang Johari added as part of the digital economy agenda, the state government has established educational institutions such as CENTEXS and provide platforms such as TEGAS Digital Village.

“So, this means the ecosystem is there and Sarawakians have the facilities to equip themselves with knowledge on technology.

“In other words, our future will be bright because the future industries are based on digital and technology,” he said.

The Premier also conveyed his appreciation to the people of Sarawak for successfully adapting to the use of technology which is important in line with the state’s digital economy initiatives.

For the record, CENTEXS was among 13 other skills institutes selected as TVET Collaboration Hub for every state in Malaysia under different fields.

CENTEXS chief executive officer Syeed Mohd Hussein received the TVET Collaboration Hub – Digital Economy Hub letter of appointment at the National TVET Week 2022 in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The appointment letter was handed over to Abang Johari during the launch of Sarawak Education Expo today.
