SARAWAK has ample to reflect when it celebrates its diamond jubilee anniversary of independence on July 22.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said throughout the past 60 years, state leaders from the late Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan to the present leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg have guided the state to achieve many important milestones in state and nation building.

“Our economy has diversified from primary and maturing more into secondary and tertiary sectors. The standards of living of Sarawakians have improved by leaps and bounds with modern infrastructure, better education, housing, nutrition, health services, more employment opportunities and social amenities among others.

“It is indeed a very remarkable journey for Sarawak. All of these would not have been possible without peace, harmony, racial inclusivity and unity as well as political stability that we all work hard to preserve.

“These have allowed Sarawak to grow and further develop our economic sectors,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday (May 23).

Awang Tengah said the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government does not engage in meaningless politicking as it is committed to serve the rakyat with dedication to propel Sarawak to greater heights.

“Bigotry has no place in Sarawak. We want our rakyat to prosper and no one shall be left behind in this journey,” he said.

At the same time, Awang Tengah urged everyone including the private sector to continue working with the government to achieve greater success.

He said the private sector is the engine of growth and the state government will continue to provide a conducive ecosystem for businesses to grow and prosper together.
