KUCHING: The state government and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) will host the 13th Asia Pacific Orchid Conference (APOC) in 2019 from July 24 to 28, 2019.
This was revealed by DBKU Mayor, Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai who added that the Pre-APOC 2017 event would be held as preparations for the APOC 2019.
Wahap said that DBKU will be hosting the Pre-APOC 2017 event from August 23 -27 at the State Library.
Activities to be held include an orchid photography contest, an international orchid landscape contest and an orchid exhibition.
“12 countries will participate in the international orchid landscape contest, namely, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Brunei, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong and Myanmar,” he said.
Wahap also revealed that up to today, 52 participants from various councils in the nation had signed up for the conference.
There are 13 participants from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), 11 from institutions of higher learning and 21 from outside the country.
The opening ceremony on August 23 will be graced by Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.
