KUCHING: Sarawak is set to establish a state-of-the-art petrochemical plant through a collaboration with one of China’s Top 500 Private Enterprises.
The proposal for the project was discussed during a meeting between the Chinese company and a Sarawak government delegation led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
According to a press statement, the company plans to work with a strategic local partner to implement the ambitious project, leveraging its advanced technology and robust research and development (R&D) capabilities.
With a portfolio of 20 registered patents and a proven track record in the petrochemical sector, the company has expressed its commitment to delivering cutting-edge expertise for the project.
Awang Tengah, who is also the Minister for International Trade and Investment (MINTRED), welcomed the proposal, emphasising its potential benefits for the state.
“The Sarawak government is committed to fostering partnerships that promote sustainable industrial growth and innovation.
“We look forward to the company’s feasibility study to assess the project’s viability and its impact on Sarawak’s development,” he said.
The Sarawak delegation included MINTRED advisor Datuk Seri Naroden Majais, MINTRED permanent secretary Dzulkarnain Masron, Land and Survey Department director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmod, Invest Sarawak CEO Timothy Ong, and Recoda CEO Datuk Ismawi Ismuni.
