KUCHING: Sarawak is set to witness uniform physical development in the next four to five years.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this would be possible through the efficient management of all nine regional development agencies.
He noted that since the establishment of these agencies in 2017 under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, their primary goal has been to ensure balanced infrastructure development throughout the state.
“With well-managed agencies, we aim to see uniform development across Sarawak, ensuring that progress is not limited to urban areas but extends to rural and remote communities as well,” he added.
He said this when met by reporters during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House at The Waterfront Hotel here on Wednesday.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who recently took on the role of overseeing nine regional development agencies, shared that he had conducted an administrative briefing with the State Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and the Sarawak Implementation and Monitoring Unit (SIMU) to ensure that all proposed development projects run smoothly.
“The Premier has been consistent in establishing these agencies to facilitate infrastructure and physical development,” he said.
“Now, our focus is on ensuring their effective implementation so that Sarawak can achieve its goal of becoming a developed state by 2030.”
Apart from overseeing regional development projects, Dr Abdul Rahman also retains his roles in managing the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and leading Islamic affairs through the Sarawak Islamic Council.
Under his purview, DBKU will continue efforts to enhance urban governance, while the Sarawak Islamic Council, which oversees 11 state and federal agencies, will focus on strengthening Islamic development programmes in the state.
“This new role is an opportunity to gain more experience.
Previously, I was tasked with housing development, followed by overseeing water and electricity infrastructure.
“Now, I am entrusted with a broader responsibility, and I will do my best to carry it out effectively,” he said.
During his Raya Open House, over 1,000 people from diverse backgrounds gathered to celebrate the festive occasion in a spirit of unity and harmony.
