KUCHING: The Sarawak table tennis team secured a spot in the semi-finals after defeating Perak on Thursday.
The thrilling match saw both teams tied at 2-2 before proceeding to the deciding set. However, the agility of the Sarawak pair dashed Perak’s hopes of continuing their campaign.
With a narrow victory of 3-2, Sarawak will face the host team, Terengganu, in the semi-finals this Friday (today).
In addition, Sarawak secured third place in the badminton event of the Sukan Se-Malaysia (SUKSEM) IX 2024 on Thursday.
The team triumphed with a score of 3-0 in the third-place playoff held at the State Stadium in Kuala Terengganu. Earlier, Sarawak’s Team A overcame Pahang with scores of 21-14 and 21-9.
Sarawak showcased their strength again as Team B also defeated Pahang, winning 21-14 and 21-9. Pahang had to concede to Sarawak’s advantage when Team C easily clinched victory with scores of 21-6 and 21-6.
This win confirmed Sarawak’s third-place finish in this edition of SUKSEM IX.
Meanwhile, the Chef de Mission (CDM) of the Sarawak contingent, who is also the Deputy State Secretary of Sarawak (Administration), Datuk Buckland Bangik, was present to support the Sarawak team.
He was accompanied by the Deputy CDM of SUKSEM Sarawak and Director of the Administration Unit, Datuk Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin.
