CONSTRUCTION works for the Sarawak Science Centre here have reached 20 per cent completion and is expected to be opened to the public by the fourth quarter of 2026.

Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said he hoped the science centre’s standards are up to par with leading science centres overseas.

“My ministry is determined to ensure that the Sarawak Science Centre meets the standard of excellence,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech today.

Earlier, Roland said he had led a delegation to Germany and Switzerland to visit leading science centres, namely Experimenta and Technorama.

“Additionally, we had fruitful discussions with our appointed manufacturer for the centre, Hüttinger GMBH & Co on project timelines and details.

“We also had the opportunity to visit their factory and gain insights into their operations,” he added.

On another development, Sagah said the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) has started to co-develop malaria and tuberculosis diagnostic kits.

“Noteworthy progress has been achieved between the SIDC and renowned research centres from western Australia, South Korea, and Germany in terms of knowledge exchange, training, and technology sharing including harmonisation of research protocols.

“I am proud that SIDC has been co-opted as a member of the United Kingdom Southeast Asia (UK SEA) Vaccine Hub,” he said.

Sagah said the SIDC is discussing with UK SEA Vaccine Hub for potential investments in vaccine  development, transfer of technology and manufacturing of vaccine in SIDC’s upcoming facility.
