KUCHING: Sarawak emerged as the overall champion in the national- level Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Carnival held in Langkawi from Nov 17 to 20.
Various STEM related competitions were held during the carnival. The state teams won five awards, three championship titles and two second prizes.
Topping the list of winners was the SMK Batu Lintang team which emerged as the champion in the Young Scientists Competition for the secondary school category.
The team of Joel Pang Kai Chen and Dannisa Naneng David beat Kelantan and Perak in the practical science experiments and theory question and answering competition. Kelantan came second while Perak was third.
Another team that emerged as champion was SK Sebauh, Sebauh which won the Water Rocket Competition. The team consisted of Erieson Entalai Anak Franky and Nistroy Alexzues Sumbang Anak Ricky.
The team from SK Kerangan, Lawas won the gold award in the STEM Invention and Innovation Competition (primary school category). The team was represented by Adriana Najwa Ali, Amanda Rosazila Abdullah and Rabiatul Adawiyah Sungsang.
In the secondary school category of the competition, the team from SMK Lake, Bau which comprised Valerie Voon Wen Xin, Bong Yu Cheng and Innovana Sipil John won the bronze medal.
In the Young Scientists Competition for primary schools, the team from SK Raykat Bolhassan, Kuching, which consisted of Nur Athilah Masdi and Siti Husna Batrisya Mohamad Zaki, won the third prize.
