Sarawak MPs extend condolences on Pak Lah’s passing

KUCHING: Sarawak’s Members of Parliament have expressed their condolences following the passing of Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur, last night (April 14).

In their tributes, Sarawak’s political leaders praised Abdullah’s contributions to the nation and described his leadership as a beacon of integrity, wisdom and moderation.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof shared his deep sorrow over the loss, offering heartfelt prayers for the late Abdullah, who was fondly known as Pak Lah.

“His leadership, founded on the principles of Islam Hadhari, focused on human capital development, and his tenure from October 31, 2003, to April 3, 2009, will be remembered for his contributions to the nation.

“May Allah grant him mercy and a place in paradise. My condolences go to his family, and may they find strength and patience in this difficult time,” he said in a Facebook post.

Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, also extended his condolences, describing Abdullah as a respected statesman whose leadership continued to inspire the nation.

“Tun Abdullah, known for his values of simplicity, integrity, and wisdom, leaves behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come.

“His passing is a great loss to the country, and I pray that his family is granted strength during this sad time,” he said.

National Unity Minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, echoed these sentiments, noting the significant role Abdullah played in shaping Malaysia’s governance and national unity.

“Tun Abdullah’s leadership was pivotal in introducing the Islam Hadhari concept, strengthening national governance, and advocating for the development of education and unity.

“His contributions to the nation will never be forgotten,” he shared on his Facebook.
