KUCHING: Sarawak is poised to host the prestigious 2026 IBF World Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships at Megalanes Sarawak in Batu Kawah.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during a press conference on the Sarawak Hornbill Team Cup 2025 at the Baitulmakmur Building II on Friday (Jan 24).
“This event will be attended by countries from all over the world and hopefully it replicates the success of last year’s championship, which was held in Incheon, South Korea,” he said.
He further stated that the event would be another significant achievement for the local tenpin bowling fraternity and would undoubtedly bring global recognition to Sarawak as a world-class venue for bowling.
“By hosting this international event, we will leverage on its popularity and recognition, which in turn will inspire our young bowlers to strive for excellence.
“The influx of foreign participants, along with their officials, team members, and supporters, will also promote Sarawak as an exciting sports destination,” he added.
Abdul Karim also noted that hosting the event would create opportunities for local athletes to shine on the international stage, providing them with valuable exposure on home turf.
Also present at the press conference were Amateur Tenpin Bowling Association of Sarawak (ABAS) president Sunny Si Poh Heng and ABAS vice president Robert Lu Nam Min.
For the record, around 38 countries are expected to converge at Megalanes Sarawak in Batu Kawa.
