KUCHING: Sarawak had lost one of its great sons, a great leader of the Dayak community, a long serving statesman and a wise leader with the demise of Deputy Chief MInister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting added the party had also lost a true, genuine and trusted friend.
“(Masing’s) passing this morning (Oct 31) was truly a shock to us and all Sarawakians throughout Sarawak.
“As a friend, I knew Masing since he was in PBDS (Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak). He had been a good and wonderful personal friend. We had played golf together and shared many political views and issues of which he was always very frank, straight to the point without mincing his words and most importantly, he had always been honest, speaking his mind without fear or favour.
“I have lost a great and wonderful friend I highly respected and was very comfortable to be with,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 31).
On behalf of SUPP, Ting also expressed his condolences to Puan Seri Datin Amar Datuk Corrine Masing and family.
“Our minds and prayers are with you at this difficult time. May the soul of Tan Sri James Jemut Masing rest in peace,” he said.
Masing, who was Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president, died at Normah Medical Centre here this morning at 7.05am.
He was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital on Sept 28 after he was infected with Covid-19 and was a symptomatic category 3 patient.
