SIBU: The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) has arrested two men and seized over RM630,000 worth of subsidised diesel yesterday (Jan 20).
At around 1.30pm, the GOF 10th Battalion Intelligence Branch raided a location around Sibujaya that was suspected of being an area for the embezzlement of subsidised diesel.
Sarawak GOF commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said two individuals, aged 26 and 27, were arrested at the scene.
“It led to the discovery of 2,110 litres of diesel kept at the location – all of which are valued at RM647,428 according to market price,” he said.
He added that the suspects and seizures were handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sibu for further action under the Control of Supplies Act 1957.
Meanwhile, in Serian, a team from the GOF 23rd Battalion, Sri Aman came across several unattended plastic packages in Kampung Temong Mura, Tebedu at around 5pm.
SAC Che Ghazali added that no arrests were made and the team found 300 cartons of illicit cigarettes kept in the packages.
“The contraband is valued at RM171,600 based on market price,” he said.
The seizures were handed over to the Serian district police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
