KUCHING: Sarawak is positioning itself as a future powerhouse in motorsports, with ambitions to shine on national and international stages.

Sarawak Motorsport Association (SMA) president Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said motorsports goes beyond speed and machine performance, serving as a unifying force for communities.

“Motorsport is a love story between humans and machines, between competitors, and most importantly, among all of us.

“This is what draws us back to the track, the workshops, and events,” he said during the Borneo Star awards dinner on Sunday (Jan 5).

He stressed that raising the standards of motorsports in Sarawak is not only about nurturing young talent but also about fostering a stronger spirit of sportsmanship.

“We are not just here to compete — we are here to lead. With dedication and effort, Sarawak can become a motorsports hub, drawing talent and fans from across Malaysia and the globe,” he added.

The event also celebrated the achievements of Sarawak’s emerging racers, inspiring the local community to aim higher and leave their mark on the global stage.
