KUCHING: Sarawak has identified six international destinations to be connected via air travel following the acquisition of MASwings, a subsidiary of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG).
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the proposed routes include Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Bangkok (Thailand), Jakarta (Indonesia), and Frankfurt (Germany).
“These flight destinations will provide tourism access to both places. My dream flight destinations are to Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Bangkok (Thailand), Indonesia in Jakarta and Frankfurt in Germany.
“We can travel and bring tourists to Sarawak, so that they can eat kolok mee and continue to sell among tourists,” he said.
He said this during the Excellent Service Appreciation and Award Ceremony organised by the Sarawak Financial Secretary’s Office and the Ministry of Finance and New Economy Sarawak at Damai Beach Resort last night (Nov 30).
To support the expansion, Abang Johari revealed that the Sarawak government intends to acquire new aircraft to serve these routes effectively.
He expressed optimism that the MASwings acquisition would be finalised by next month.
During the event, Abang Zohari presented the Excellent Service Awards (APC) to 14 officers and certificates to three retirees and one officer who had been transferred.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Sarawak Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, and Deputy Sarawak Financial Secretary Datuk Hasmawati Sapawi were also present.
