KUCHING: Members of the public are advised to be cautious of a fraudulent Facebook page impersonating Sarawak Energy’s official account.
The page uses the logo of the utility’s mobile application, “SEB cares,” as its profile picture and falsely promotes bill payment services offering discounts of 30 to 35 percent on electricity bills.
Sarawak Energy reminded the public that all legitimate announcements, updates, and recruitment notices are shared exclusively through its official website, SEB cares mobile app, and verified social media channels.
“Customers are advised to rely only on these official platforms for accurate and up-to-date information,” the statement read.
The utility company also stressed that individuals affected by the scam should immediately cease communication with the scammers. Financial transactions made to the fraudulent page should be reported to the relevant bank, and the incident should be lodged with the appropriate authorities.
“Sarawak Energy is committed to safeguarding its customers against fraudulent activities and encourages vigilance.”
Suspicious online activities or impersonation of the organisation can be reported by contacting Sarawak Energy’s Customer Care Centre at 1300-88-3111 or emailing customercare@sarawakenergy.com. Fraudulent pages should also be reported directly to Facebook.
To avoid scams, SEB said bill payment should only be conducted through verified channels such as SEB cares mobile application or web portal, Sarawak Energy payment kiosks, SPAY Global, verified internet banking and POS Malaysia.
