SINGAPORE: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Sarawak delegation toured the Bishan Ang Mo Kio Park today.
The purpose of the one-hour tour hosted by the Singapore National Park management was to study urban landscapes and water management concepts at the 62-hectare park.
“Members of the delegation were made aware of the significance of integrating park and urban landscape development with water management and flood intervention measures,” said a press release.
The Denmark-based consultants for the park later briefed on the park’s design and concept as well as its effectiveness as a flood intervention, using examples from their successful projects around the world.
Redevelopment of the 200-hectare Bukit Assek area in Sibu was also discussed in the consultants’ briefing, along similar lines, with the emphasis that such development would also help to create communities around the project.
The Premier was accompanied by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang Mee Ting and acting State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.
A team from Sibu led by Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh was also present as part of the initiative to revamp Bukit Assek.
Later that evening, the Premier, accompanied by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, attended a briefing by an infrastructure and urban planning consultancy company owned by the Singaporean government about a masterplan for the development of industrial terminals in Sarawak.
