KUCHING: Sarawak is among the top investment destinations for foreign investors, as evidenced by the potential for increased investment from China following the recent mission led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said it was a fruitful trip with meetings and visits that potentially will bring in more than RM7 billion worth of investments.

“Among the potential projects include solar glass, construction materials and renewable energy projects.

“If these projects materialise, it can create business and employment opportunities for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the local community,” he said.

He said the state government’s dedication to foster a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem remains steadfast.

Recognising the importance of creating an environment that attracts investment, he said Sarawak prioritises nurturing and supporting local entrepreneurs in their endeavors.

He said this in a text speech read out by Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi during the 73rd Gala Dinner hosted by Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here last night (Dec 11).

Abang Kohari said as the state progresses through 2024, Sarawak remains focused on enhancing its economic diversification.

“Our efforts to modernise agriculture, strengthen infrastructure, and elevate sectors like tourism and human capital development are fundamental to ensuring long-term prosperity for all Sarawakians.

“In our quest for balanced development, we are accelerating rural transformation through infrastructure improvements that will open up new avenues for economic activity, creating jobs and stimulating growth across the state.

“At the same time, we continue to focus on sound fiscal management, ensuring that our revenue strategies allow us to efficiently manage resources, reinvest in key sectors, and implement infrastructure projects that will benefit all Sarawakians,” he said.

He said these strategies are aimed at creating a more inclusive and equitable future for Sarawak, ensuring that urban and rural areas alike benefit from sustained growth and development opportunities.

“To increase the competitiveness of Sarawak’s small and medium scale businesses in the global market, we are implementing various programmes and projects to uplift their capability and capacity under the various ministries with a total funding of RM 39.7 million for 2025.
