SARAWAK is bolstering its civil service with transformative initiatives to ensure its workforce is equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly changing future, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced during his ministerial winding-up speech in the August House.
The Minister for Finance and New Economy said that his administration is focused on enhancing the civil service’s effectiveness and efficiency while safeguarding the welfare of its employees.
Among these efforts is the upgrading of the Employee Performance Management System (EPMS), which aims to set clear expectations, encourage high standards, and align workforce goals with Sarawak’s vision.
Recognising the contributions of employees under the Jawatan Berasaskan Caruman (JBC) Scheme, introduced in 2002, Abang Johari announced enhancements to their benefits.
“By aligning them with our permanent, pensionable staff, we are demonstrating our commitment to recognising their contributions. This change also provides JBC employees with more opportunities for promotion and career growth, offering them greater job security and long-term support,” he said.
Looking ahead, Abang Johari outlined his vision for a Sarawak Service Scheme, tailored specifically to meet the state’s needs and priorities. “This scheme will give us the flexibility and control to create policies that reflect our local values and objectives,” he explained.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) in driving the state’s progress, Abang Johari praised civil servants for their unwavering dedication. “These committed individuals work tirelessly behind the scenes, turning our plans into reality,” he said.
